Bit of a lengthy blog post about upcoming changes in patch 1.0.3. Updates to a number of areas of the game - Blacksmithing and Jewlcrafter cost reductions, legendary items update, removing some of the spikiness of incoming damage in Inferno difficulty, and last but certainly not least, PTR in the works to test out the PvP patch.

Shame they're still not reducing the cost of actually making higher-grade gems. Even though I just made 500k off the auction house, I still don't really want to be blowing 20k+ at the jeweller...

I'm so glad they'll be reducing the number of gems required for the next level to 2.

If you had to use 3 gems for the next level, then it would take a ridiculous amount of gems to get a radiant star. Assuming you start with flawless gems and need 3 gems per level it would take 3^10 = 59,049 flawless gems. Now if the change it to 2 gem per level it would be 2^10 = 1024 flawless gem for a radiant star. Let's look at chipped gems for fun... It would currently take 3^13 = 1,594,323 chipped gems to get a single radiant star, or 2^13 = 8192 chipped if the requirement was 2 gems.

So, I'd much rather have to pay the cash than have to find the extra 58,025 flawless gems for a radiant star...lol.
