I was just wondering how many of you have made the switch to Windows 7, and what you think about it.
Yesterday I decided to switch from Vista (which I never had any problems with) to Windows 7. So far I like Windows 7, but like I said, I was quite content with Vista before. There have been a couple of quirks that I have found so far, but nothing major, and nothing that I couldn't find a work around to.
So, share what you think about Windows 7.

I made the switch since if you have a .edu e-mail address you can get Win7 Pro x64 for $30. I just couldn't pass up that deal...
I haven't used it a whole lot yet since I don't have internet on my computer. All the games and programs I use work fine, and that's really all that matters to me.
What quirks are you referring to?

I am content with it. It's pretty light on the memory. I can run it and vmware ubuntu at the same time using a whopping 1.3 gigs on average.
Only downside I have seen is a lack of drivers for certain software firewalls. Not a big deal though.

What quirks are you referring to? This is how I got my windows 7 also... http://www.win741.com/Eventually, after making it through that page, it will take you here: http://windows7.digitalriver.com/store/msw...DisplayHomePageAs a note, you have to download Windows 7 to your computer, and the one that they make you download sucks because it is not a bootable cd. If you want to do a clean install to switch from a 32 bit os to a 64 bit, you would be out of luck... However, they were nice enough to put up a .iso version you can download (although they hide the link from you unless you ask for it). And here are the links... Home Premium x86: http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/ms...2/X15-65732.isoHome Premium x64: http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/ms...3/X15-65733.isoProfessional x86: http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/ms...4/X15-65804.isoProfessional x64: http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/ms...5/X15-65805.isoYou will still need to purchase the correct version that goes along with the iso above, because you need a key to activate it.

Got mine through the microsoft alliance for IT students in certain schools. Keys for x86 and x64 professional were free, check with your school to see if they are participating in this program before paying for a copy. The specific link for my school.

I'm allowed one legitimate key per os/program on that list.

No, the keys work the same as a store bought copy. The personal os's are nice, but the real advantage is getting my hands on server 03, 08, and exchange.

I also never had any problems with Vista, though I did make the jump to the Windows 7 as soon as it came out. I got my hard copy for free, nice perk you get for living in Redmond WA and participating in the alpha test.

Windows 7 is basically just the same as Vista, but with very minor performance improvements (eg, for booting up and file transfer), and a slightly tweaked task bar. It's a step in the right direction, at least. However, I won't be taking that step for a while to give everyone time to work out driver issues.

Windows 7 uses more or less Vistas driverbase, so as a rule of thumb, if it works with Vista, it works with Win7. Give it a try, i bet you won't be disappointed :-D Also Microsoft Security Essentials are nice, finally MS made an AV / Security suite themselves. Been using it for half a year now, used Nod32 earlier. No problems so far and i DO surf my share of porn :-D

I never used Vista on my own computers. My buddy had it on his computer since that came with it. When I got the computer from him, I installed XP. Then, went right to Windows 7.
